Nakatunog | Aguirre to resign before being fired by President Duterte

Earlier report reveals that Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III is exploring the possibility of joining the incoming Senatorial Race amidst wary of pre-empted dismissal by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Aguirre’s projection is likely to happen as it reportedly filed his resignation on Tuesday, April 03, 2018 ahead of the President’s plan to sack him.
It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Duterte was fumed with anger and disappointment over the DOJ’s decision to DISMISS drug charges against self-confessed drug linked Kerwin Espinosa, Peter Lim, and others.

The President was quoted as saying: “Kapag nakawala yan si Lim at Espinosa, siya ang ipapalit ko. I can review that dismissal order. Nag-amin na nga sa Congress! Why not admit it as evidence against him?” referring to Secretary Aquirre.

“I will invoke my power of supervision and control and will review dismissal,” the President added.

Print and Digital Newspaper, The Star, on Wednesday, 4 April 2018 referred to Aguirre as the Government Official that the President will dismiss right after Holy Week.

The Star reported that “reliable sources” says that Aguirre’s termination will be announced by the President at the Cabinet meeting come Wednesday or anytime within the week.

“Palace sources said the President has had enough of Aguirre, who has been under fire for his prosecutors’ dismissal of criminal charges against alleged drug lords,” The Star said.

Palace officials, however, denied allegations that the President had already FIRED Aguirre in his first public engagement after holy week at the Inauguration of a bridge in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro.

In a press statement, Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra said: “No statement from the President to that effect…,” referring to the alleged report.

If all matters permit, Aguirre hopes to retain his post as Justice Secretary, and although there isn’t any clear inclination yet as to the President’s decision for his disposition, he also laid out his plan of running as Provincial Governor for Quezon.

One of Aguirre’s cousins, however, revealed that his entire clan would stand as an opposition paty if it were to run for Governor, according to a write-up earlier published by known columnist Ramon Tulfo.

Citing behavioral issues with their relative, Aguirre’s cousin said: “Mas yumabang siya nang maging Secretary of Justice,” in an interview with Ramon Tulfo.
