Couple behind OFW Massacre in Kuwait, sentenced to Death

GOOD RIDDANCE – Potter Stewart once quoted, “Swift Justice demands more than just swiftness”. This is now felt by many Filipinos most especially the family of the late Joanna Demafelis whose lifeless body was found inside a freezer last February, a year after her family reported her missing.

The Lebanese – Syrian couple who perpetrated the killing of Demafelis is now sentenced to DEATH in absentia, announced on Sunday, April 1, 2018.

Couples Nader Essam Assaf and Syrian wife Mona Hassoun were both arrested in Syria on February 24, 2018 in collaboration with Kuwaiti authorities and Interpol.

MALACAÑANG welcomed the arrest of the principal suspect in the murder of OFW Demafelis in Kuwait.

"We're thankful [for the arrest of one of the suspects in the killing of Demafelis]," Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said.

The Lebanese man admitted killing the maid, following that, Atty. in Lebanon charged the man with killing his maid and putting her body in a freezer.

Lebanese authorities had announced that the body of the maid was found in a freezer in the flat where the couple resided for a long period of time.

The Lebanese couple who killed their Filipino maid in Kuwait were sentenced to death in absentia.

President Rodrigo Duterte’s stern demand to finally create a bilateral deal to the Arab Nation, OFWs in Gulf States shall soon obtain well-founded provisions in-harmony to protect the welfare of our citizens most especially those who are working with the most widely common profession – Domestic Helper.

Duterte during his visit to Demafelis' wake, expressed hope that Interpol and Kuwaiti authorities would prosecute the suspects in the brutal murder. 

"It behooves upon the police of Kuwait and the Interpol, there's a serious crime. That's their problem, if the two [suspects] are arrested, that would allow me now to initiate charges. So by that time, in the fullness of God's time, if they are apprehended and charged, then I will come in." President Duterte said.
