Duterte kay Pacquiao: Gusto kitang gawing Presidente

December 17 (Sunday), the Philippine President, Rodrigo Duterte, was invited by Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao on his 39th birthday party held in General Santos City. It is said that there were 2,000 guests invited on his birthday bash that was attended by several senators and prominent personalities.
Duterte had his speech during the birthday party wherein, he annoints the boxing champ to be his successor and said it was his pleasure to celebrate another milestone in Pacquiao's life. 

“Sabi ko sa kanya one time…kami lang dalawa nag-usap, gusto kita gawing presidente. (I told him while we were alone, I want you to become president,)" Duterte said.

“Parang tape recorder, next election, patutugtugin mo lang, ganun na yan,” he added.

Pacquiao once admitted that he tried to use illegal drugs back at his teenage years but was stopped becuase if Duterte’s “drug war”. Now, aside from being a senator, Pacquiao is also a senate member for Duterte's ruling PDP-Laban party.

"You have brought so much pride and joy to our country for being the world champion in the field of boxing," Duterte said.

"The determination you have shown and the humility embodied in the glorious triumph are worthy of emulation. Continue to inspire as we lead them towards a more prosperous life," Duterte added.

The Boxing-champ-turned-Senator recalled his life back when he was just an ordinary man, and said that he wants to be an inspiration.

"I want to be an inspiration to everyone, especially the poor. Don't be discouraged, because God has plan for you," Pacquiao said.
